Ditching school (with Mom and Dad) for a special Cedar Point trip: Cleveland Remembers

It was just an average day. My mom came to wake me up for school. I buried my head in my pillow and groaned. “Not yet. 5 more minutes.” It was the middle of the week, the weekend felt years away, and to top it all off, it was a bright sunny morning and I knew I was destined to spend most of it indoors.

My mom came and sat down on the corner of my bed and brushed my hair away from my face and said, “Honey, you don’t have to go to school today. I called you in sick… Dad and I want to take you and Chrissy to Cedar Point!” All of my fatigue was gone in a flash and I started running around beyond excited. My sister soon came barging in to join the celebration. I don’t think I had ever seen her smile in the morning before, she was not much of a morning person.

Not only did I not have to go to school, I had the chance to go to the best amusement park ever! Being in elementary school I wasn’t quite tall enough for most of the rides, but I was more than happy to spend the day riding the Mine Ride and the Jr. Gemini. My dad helped me stuff tissues in my sneakers to help me get a little extra lift.

I would spend the afternoon talking on the phone to Brother Bear in Berenstain Bear Country and hiking through the haunted forest. I would jump at the sounds of gun-toting skeletons while we rode the train around the edge of the park. I made my dad carry around countless styrofoam-packed toys that we would win. My sister dominated the balloon pop with the water gun, while I was more keen on the horse races.

It was one of my favorite trips to Cedar Point. It was such a fun surprise and something special that our entire family will always have together. I like in California now, but am looking forward to my trip home this summer and of course I will be heading to America’s Roller Coast!
