If you understand the causes of acne and the type of treatments available, then it makes sense why taking an acne vitamin supplement is beneficial.  The good news is that when acne vitamins are taken in conjunction with the other acne products and treatments that your dermatologist recommends, you’ll see better results.  That’s because acne vitamin supplements help boost your skin’s health.  Read below to learn why acne vitamins should be part of your acne treatment plan and how their daily usage will bring back that glow you love.

Acne develops in a structure of the skin called the pilosebaceous unit.  The central canal of this unit is called the follicle, which includes a hair shaft and an opening to the skin or a pore.  In the follicle are small sacs called sebaceous glands which secrete sebum, a skin and hair lubricant.

The adrenal hormone testosterone stimulates the production of sebum as well as keratin, a fibrous protein that lines the follicle.  In acne, these skin cells shed excessively and stick together.  When combined with excess sebum, an enlarged follicle or microcomedo is formed.  The result?  A non-inflammatory comeodome that when partially blocked is called a blackhead ; or when completely closed, is referred to as a whitehead.

Salmonella bacteria

By Timothy W. Martin

As the amount of food shipped from overseas continues to rise, so does the risk of any contamination sparking outbreaks in multiple states.

Frankie Edgar receives rematch with Benson Henderson

Written by Blake McSharry on March 7, 2012 – 11:54 am

Without a single knockout loss on his record some might say UFC lightweight Frankie Edgar has a “hard head”. However, it was that very quality earning him a second crack at champion Benson Henderson, as Edgar’s refusal to drop down to featherweight played a significant role in the UFC’s decision to schedule a rematch between the two talented 155ers despite having fought less than three weeks ago at UFC 144.

No specific date is set but the scrap is likely to be scheduled for this summer as a means of giving the competitors a chance to fully heal from their February fight in addition to allowing an upcoming bout between Jim Miller-Nate Diaz to determine the next man in line for a shot at the belt.

The UFC confirmed the news earlier today with an exuberant Edgar taking to Twitter to write, “Rematch anyone??…….it’s on!! Thanks to

Study finds concussions’ effects linger for children

Written by Joshua Kneeshaw on March 6, 2012 – 4:03 am

CHICAGO — Children with even relatively mild concussions can have persistent attention and memory problems a year after their injuries, according to a study that helps identify which kids may be most at risk for lingering symptoms.

In most kids with these injuries, symptoms resolve within a few months, but the study results suggest that problems may linger for up to about 20 percent, said study author Keith Owen Yeates, a neuropsychologist at Ohio State University’s Center for Biobehaviorial Health.

Problems like forgetfulness were more likely to linger than fatigue, dizziness and other physical complaints, the study found.

Forgetfulness, difficulty paying attention, headaches and fatigue were more common in study children who lost consciousness or who had other mild head trauma that caused brain abnormalities on imaging tests, compared with kids who didn’t get knocked out or who had normal imaging test results.

The study looked at symptoms up to a year after injury so it doesn’t answer whether any kids had longer-lasting or permanent problems.

“What parents want to know is if my kid is going to do OK.
