Living Near a Fast-Food Restaurant Not Linked to Weight Gain

We often eat whats convenient. So those who live near fast-food restaurants, youd think, are more likely to be overweight, or to gain weight, than those who live farther away.
But that conventional wisdom backed by some previous research isnt true, says a study that will be published in the Nov. 15 issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Harvard researchers looked at data from the Framingham Heart Study Offspring Cohort covering 3,113 people in four towns between 1971 and 2001. That data included measurements of BMI over time and the moves the people made within the towns.

Physical Activity Helps Teens Quit Smoking

Teens who add physical exercise to a smoking cessation program have greater success in kicking the habit, a new report from Pediatrics suggests. Studies in adult smokers have found that success is enhanced when physical exercise is added to a smoking cessation program. Physical exercise alleviates withdrawal symptoms, reduces cravings and prevents against weight gain. Headliners’ shoving match highlights eventful UFC 137 weigh-ins

Though BJ Penn and Nick Diaz are set to fight tonight in the main event of UFC 137, the two welterweights tussled yesterday afternoon in Las Vegas during the stare-down portion of the weigh-ins. After hitting their marks, Penn inched in close to Diaz only to have the controversial Californian respond by lowering his forehead only to get shoved away in return.
